What is a Patiala salwar? How is it different from a regular salwar?

The Patiala salwar is a distinctive style of salwar originating from Patiala, Punjab — characterised by its unique construction: it has a very large amount of fabric (up to 7–8 meters) gathered into a wide, full, pleated bottom that falls in loose pleats from the hip down to just below the knee or ankle.

Visual distinction: While a regular salwar has a wide seat that tapers, the Patiala salwar has strong horizontal pleats throughout, creating a very full, structured look that bounces when you walk.
