What should I do when wholesale garments arrive damaged in transit?

Transit damage is the shared responsibility of courier and supplier — but documentation is everything. Here is the correct process:

Step 1 — Do NOT sign the delivery receipt without checking: If the parcel looks damaged on the outside (wet, crushed, torn), note "parcel received damaged" on the delivery receipt before signing. This creates a formal record with the courier.

Step 2 — Record your unboxing on video: Film the entire unboxing — from the sealed/damaged parcel to the contents. This is your primary evidence for both the courier claim and the supplier claim.

Step 3 — Document damage specifically: Photograph each damaged piece, note the catalog name, piece number, and nature of damage.

Step 4 — Contact courier AND supplier within 24 hours:

  • Courier claim: file at the courier office or app — they have a 24–48 hour claim window for transit damage
  • Supplier notification: send photos/video immediately — most suppliers will replace or credit for clear transit damage
